The federal election (for Canada's Prime Minister) is being held on Monday, September 20,2021.
That is why we have NO SCHOOL!
Do you and your family follow politics?
What makes Canada such a GREAT country?
If you were the Prime Minister, how would you continue to make Canada great?
How would you IMPROVE Canada?
Explain.

My family doesn't really follow politics too much, and to be honest, I don’t really care about politics. I know that I will have to care when I get older, but as of right now, I really don’t think about it. Honestly, I don’t really know what makes Canada a great country because I don’t think it’s too great of a country. I really think that Canada could do with some upgrades. I don’t know how I would improve Canada because there would be a lot of improvement needed.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know what are some of the improvements you believe would make Canada a great country in your eyes, elaborate more cause I'm curious. Even though we are kids, it's still really important to be aware of what is happening in the world, your country at least! I strongly advise you to venture out of your comfort zone and learn about what is happening NOW in your country.
DeletePersonally I do not follow politics very much, but my parents do follow them. Canada is a great country because of our schooling systems, free health care, etc. If I were the prime minister I would continue to keep the allied countries Canada has made plus continue to offer free health care to everyone. Even though it is a better country than some, Canada does have some stuff to fix, which there are more than one, if I were Prime Minister I would have to take a more in depth look at what I could do to fix the problems of the past to create a better future.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea for keeping allies.
DeleteI agree, taking an in depth look at problems could help find where we need to improve and how to improve them.
DeleteI agree with your statement about how Canada does have it's cons. I think that Canada is often compared to other countries to make it seem better but we do need to acknowledge that we have our faults.
Deletei agree with keeping free healthcare, good blog!
DeleteI follow zero politics and find it very boring. My parents normally follow it and I tend to ignore it whenever they walk about it because it is not a topic I normally find interesting. I love Canada and think it is great because of many reasons including the free health care because so many people can get help now. I don’t really know what I would do if I was prime minister because I never really thought about it. I might try and see what could be improved or what needs to be improved and work from there onward.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your views about why Canada is a great country, and I totally get the not following politics.
DeleteYes, Canada is great for having free healthcare.
Deletepersonally, I do follow politics. It's always interested me and watching the entire thing unfold is really entertaining, along with being interesting. There are a lot of great things about Canada, one of them being that there is (mostly) free healthcare. You could break your knee and it wouldn't be financially devastating, as long as you have a medicare card. Another thing that's great about it is the security around guns. You don't have to worry as much, because there are such harsh laws around them. I think that if I was prime minister, I would try and implement more Green laws, so that the country can start getting closer to being a cleaner planet. Other then that, I think that there isn't much I would be able to make better about Canada, at least that I can think of right now.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. Pollution is terrible and it's destroying the planet. We need a cleaner environment.
DeleteI understand how you feel about not know what can/should be improved. You really have to dig deep through piles an piles of boring gouvernment documents and such.
DeleteFree healthcare is a huge benefit here in Canada
DeleteMy parents follow politics but I don’t very much, although, I try too because I believe it is important. I don’t believe that politics needs to be brought up in every conversation or situation but I do think that it is important for us to be aware of everything that is happening in the world. In order to make it better we have to know what needs improvement. I have never really thought about what I would do if I were prime minister of Canada. As I said I don’t know a whole lot about politics but I would definitely keep healthcare and try to help the environment as much as possible. I would also bring attention to the indigenous people whose land we are standing on at the moment and try to educate more people on the subject and the discrimination that happened and is happening against them. I would do my best to end the discrimination against people of different races, cultures, religions and beliefs. In addition, I would bring light to modern day feminism which includes women of colour, trans women and women with disabilities. I would help the lgbtqia+ communities and overall try to have everyone's voices be heard. I would hope that as a president I would be able to make this world more peaceful and a better place.
ReplyDeleteI like your ideas of what you would do to improve Canada and I also think you brought up a good point that politics don't need to be brought up in every conversation/situation.
DeleteMy family and I do follow politics. I think part of what makes Canada great is the scenery. Canada has so many different sights to visit, and a lot of them have to do with nature. Even though urbanization has taken away a majority of Canada’s nature, I think it makes it even more special when you see random nature areas.
ReplyDeleteIf I were the prime minister of Canada, I would definitely focus on the Indigenous peoples of Canada (specifically) since there’s still so much work to be done. Focusing on Indigenous communities would improve Canada as well. To help them, I would begin by stopping Line 3. Line 3 is a pipeline project that goes from Alberta (Canada) to Wisconsin (United States). This pipeline creates more bad than good, as it passes through treaty territory of the Anishinaabe peoples. Line 3 is a violation of rights. The construction of this pipeline can threaten and injure the lives of Indigenous peoples but it also destroys the environment and its resources. The negative impacts I’ve just mentioned are only a small part of how horrible Line 3 is. Enbridge (a Canadian corporation) is in charge of this, and if I was Prime Minister I would shut this project down immediately.
I don't follow politics at all. My parents do pay attention to politics, but not too heavily. I personally think that Canada is such a great country because of the free health care system. You should never have to worry about paying a devastating amount of money because you hurt yourself. The fact that you got injured is already bad enough, and on top of that you would already start to have stressful concerns about the bill. We are extremely lucky that that is not the case in Canada. Also, this country has extremely good education opportunities which will lead to excellent career options. If I was the prime minister, I would certainly keep all this stuff up because it is clearly proven very helpful. There are some things I would want to improve though. For example, the tax rates are very high. As a prime minister, my goal would be to do lower them. This will also contribute to a happier population which is always good.
ReplyDeleteI literally agree with everything you're saying. Free health care and good education are big aspects.
DeleteI agree wise words 10/10 couldn't have said it better myself.
Deletepersonally, i don't follow politics. one because i don't have the time to look at everything that's going on and what the party's stand for and bla bla bla, and two, i just don't care. although, my parents do follow politics.
ReplyDeletei think the best part about canada is that canada is open to a wide variety of ethnicities, religions, cultures, languages, etc. canada is so diverse in these things and so accepting of everyone. i think that's important for a country to have because it gives a sense of peace and tranquility.
if i were the prime minister, i would continue to make canada great by keeping up with the widespread differences. i believe that's most important. i could improve canada by giving more respect towards the first nations. i don't think they deserve any sort of negativity towards them in any way. it is wrong to steal someone's land and call it our own without even mentioning the first nations.
Personally I don't really keep up with politics but mom and dad do. My dad watches the news every morning on the TV because he likes to know what is going on in the world. My mom gets most of her information about politics from her computer but she always makes sure to understand both parties because she knows the importance of voting. Most people think Canada is a great place to live because of the stereotype that everyone in Canada is extremely nice. There are other reasons why Canada is a great country such as it has more clean water than any other country, has beautiful scenery, has a good job market, caring about human rights and is committed to social justice. If I were the prime minister I would prioritize education, health and the environment. I would make sure everyone respects the environment and if they were caught littering they would be fined.
ReplyDeleteThose are great things to prioritize, especially the environment. Seeing how quickly global warning is becoming more of a threat, it would be smart to the environment a priority.
DeleteI agree. I think the government should be more strict with littering and polluting the environment.
DeletePolitics was never something I liked to talk about. It’s never a conversation topic in my house but my parents still keep themselves updated on the matter. I know I’m going to have to do the same soon but since it bores me so much, I plan to wait until I can vote. I think Canada is a great country in regards to health care and safety. Canada still has its faults but I have no clue how I’d be able to fix them. The Government has never been my strong point when learning about it in school so I have no clue on how anything works. I’m trying to get better with it but as of right now, I wouldn’t be able to make anything better if I was the Prime Minister.
ReplyDeleteI personally don’t follow politics and I would say my family doesn’t pay too much attention to it either. Canada is a good country as we have free healthcare, good schools and many resources accessible to us if we need them. Even though Canada is for the majority a good country, a lot has happened which makes us not such a great country. If I were to be prime minister, I’d attempt to help more families that are struggling with financial issues as well as people with mental health issues. Mental health is extremely important and I would make more resources available to the general public for anyone in need, especially students. I wouldn’t know where to start improving Canada to be completely honest, a lot needs to be done.
ReplyDeletePutting an emphasis on mental health is not something I'd previously thought of, but it is important. Especially with the pandemic it's become a bigger issue which tends to be overlooked. Nice blog!
DeleteMy family is generally quite interested in politics. I say this yet its mostly just laughing that all the parties that we agree with have incompetent leaders and the only person who seems to know what he's doing is Bernier which sucks cuz he's a seperatist.
ReplyDeleteCanada has a strong economy, and has high living standards. However there are still some problems with the country. Here's a rough idea of what I would do if I were Prime Minister:
Economic: I would make policies that promote non-polluting workplaces such as benefits for offices.
Social: To go with the higher demand for higher level education, I would make scholarship grants more accessible to lower class families.
Military: I would greatly strengthen the navy, introducing a new class of missile destroyers specially designed to patrol the melting Artic. I would also construct a new Airbase in Donaldson, QC.
Enviornmental: I would make policies that promote non-polluting workplaces such as benefits for offices.
I personally do not follow politics at all and I have no clue if my parents do since they never talk about politics they don’t even tell me who they voted for.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the free health care and the diversity makes Canada such a great country for example if we ever get into a major accident we will not be in a huge amount of debt just like america *cough* *cough*. The diversity in our country is great. Almost everyone accepts each other for being who they are.
If I were the prime minister I don’t think there would be much things for me to improve I guess the best I could do would be for the people to pick what new laws they want added or which old ones they would want to be removed, this would obviously supervised and only would be changed/added if it were acceptable and wouldn’t cause mayhem.
I could continue to make Canada great by hearing what it’s people want and caring more about the environment and what would help Canada as a whole.
I do not follow politics at all. My family and I never talk about it and honestly if there weren’t a ped day on Monday I wouldn’t even know there was an election going on. I think that Canada is such a great country because we have a lot of fresh water and because there is a lot of empty space which is perfect for animals. If I were the prime minister I would make it so that animals are more well protected from hunting and neglect.
ReplyDeletesame here, I had no idea what this ped day was even for.
DeleteMy family follows politics, however I don't. I don't really like to get involved in politics because it tends to be a subject that can cause lots of disagreements. However, when I get older and become able to vote I'll probably involve myself more since it is still important. Canada is a great country when it comes to being a welcoming place as well as being very open. It is also one of the safest places in the world due to its lower rates of crime. I'm not very aware of the current issues in the way Canada is being governed so I wouldn't be a very suitable candidate for Prime Minister. I do know however that there is a lot of injustice towards the indigenous communities, so I'd probably offer solutions in order to bring justice and equity to these people. I'd also put a lot more effort towards stopping climate change, because I feel as though there is still a lot more that can be done regarding it.
ReplyDeleteI think your views on stopping climate change are really interesting.
DeleteI don't follow politics very regularly but my family often talks about politics. Canada is a great country for many reasons. One of the most commonly known reasons is free healthcare which is a problem in many other countries.
ReplyDeleteIf I was Prime Minister I would improve the healthcare system, issuing healthcare workers a higher salary. As it is right now healthcare workers are not being payed very much. Their low salary creates a chain of problems. If they have a low salary then not many people will want to work in healthcare which creates a shortage doctors and nurses if there is no more clinics or healthcare workers then there would be nothing you could do if someone was severely injured. For these reasons raising the salaries of healthcare workers would be a great idea if I was Prime Minister.
My mom and I usually do, my sister's not a huge politics girl. I think that my family has a lot of the same views on politics, in particular that we want NDP to win because we love Jagmeet Singh.
ReplyDeleteI think, while Canada is pretty great country, it's still not the best. The reasons why it is pretty great is because it cares a lot more about human rights then, hm, let's say America. It is more commited to social justice than other countries and it also is the third most business-friendly country in the world.
I don't think Canada was ever as good as it is now, but obviously this is not it's best, because it could be better. I think that paying more recognition to Indigenous people and what Canada and residential schools did to them would be a great start.
I think we should improve Canada by taxing the rich, but only a little. Let's say every rich person in Canada makes 10 million dollars a year, and there are like 50 really rich people in Canada. If we tax them by 1 or 2% we would have a lot of money for schools, roads, medicare, even business, and we wouldn't be taking so much that they would leave Canada, but enough for things we need. Currently Canada is just taxing the middle class more, which isn't going to help anyone.
I agree! I also think that we should raise the minimum wage to a wage where people can live and afford basic needs, since $13.50 an hour is definitely not enough. It could also be a factor in decreasing poverty.
DeleteMy family does not follow politics however, as of right now with the election around the corner, I have gotten informed by all that is happening with the political campaigns, debates, and such.
ReplyDeleteCanada's natural resources is one of the things that makes this country advanced in development and well supported. Another thing is that Canada is a democratic country which is incredibly important because I strongly believe that the people should have a voice as to who they want to lead their country. But like every country, Canada does have it's problems. For instance, the house values that continue to increase as the years go by.
If I were Prime Minister, I would continue to make Canada great by allowing the people to voice their opinion. To work in strengthening our alliances with countries abroad, and by also finding a way to reduce our country's waste.
I would improve Canada by ensuring that the homeless have access to places, where it is convenient for them, to sleep, eat, and get themselves back on their feat by providing courses for them to educate themselves. I would improve Canada by implementing a strict law that forces all business's and Canadian citizens to plant a tree whenever one is being cut by their order. Trees hold the soil together thanks to the roots that intertwine under the ground so they are extremely important to prevent land slides.
I do have more to say but IMA end it here! The end!
My family and I do not follow politics much, especially Canadian politics. My parents vote for their preferred party but they do not watch any of the speeches or conferences. I would say we as a family watch the American elections more than anything because there is a lot of conflict and it is entertaining.
ReplyDeleteThere are many reasons why Canada is such a great country, but the first point I think of is free healthcare. Unlike in the States, we do not have to pay for any means necessary when we go for an appointment to the doctor, to the emergency room, medication , etc. Another superb thing Canada takes into consideration is our Education. Canada spends more money on education than any other nation. Canada is also the most educated country in the world with the highest proportion of college graduates at 51%. Canada is also well known for their multicultural society.
If I was the Prime Minister of Canada, I would make a law where it is illegal to smoke marijuana/cannabis. The reason why I believe it should be illegal is because it has a wide range of health effects on the body and brain. I would also push for a more green society. We only have one world and we need to take care of it. We are the future generations and we need to set an example.
In my eyes I believe Canada is the best country in the world! I think we have a great society but there are many things we could improve on.
I don’t have the patience nor the capability of understanding what goes on in politics. I’ve tried several times to sit down and learn but I gave up not even halfway through. I think what makes Canada a great country is that we sell Reese’s pieces in packs of 3 instead of packs of 2 like in the U.S. You get more for your money and the packaging is nicer. The free health care is good too. I’ve never though about becoming Prime Minister, too much pressure and expectations from people so I don’t exactly know how I would continue to make Canada great. I’m also extremely indecisive so having to make big decisions would send me into an early cardiac arrest from the stress levels I would no doubt experience.
ReplyDeleteMy parents do follow politics, mostly just by watching the news and keeping up with the government. While Canada is not the best country in the world, it does have free healthcare, making access to medical assistance easily accessible. It’s also larger and less densely populated than the United States, with many natural resources.
ReplyDeleteWith that being said, these natural resources are at risk. For example, Line 3 is a pipeline expansion that is being built illegally on indigenous land. Not only will this contribute to climate change, but it is guaranteed to spill sooner or later, contaminating water that is used by indigenous groups to survive. Although this pipeline is not passing through Canadian soil, it is the Canadian government that will profit from it. Enbridge, a Canadian pipeline company, is responsible for suggesting this project in the first place.
If I were the prime minister of Canada, I would halt all construction on the pipeline immediately and invest in repairing the damage done to the reservations and treaty areas affected. Enbridge would be held accountable for their action and the country would focus on more sustainable energy alternatives. I would also strengthen the efforts in finding the missing indigenous women and solving their cases, as well as finding the true stories of those who were murdered.
While Canada has made a lot of progress, Canadians deserve better, especially those whose ancestors have inhabited this land far before us.
You’d make for a great prime minister!
DeleteTo be honest neither I nor my family follow politics. To be frank I couldn’t care less about them, I’d rather focus my time on something more important, like completing homework on time, which I don’t think I’m too good at. What I like about Canada is that we are pretty much the introverts of country’s, we're not the loudest like the USA or the most populated, we’re always just kind of there. As far as I’m aware we have no major enemies, so it’s always very relaxing, and also free healthcare.
ReplyDeleteIf I were the prime minister of Canada , I’d try to lay low, in my eyes Canada is already a perfect country. We have no need to start wars or anything like that. We are just your polite neighborhood in the north.
hello
ReplyDeleteNow personally my family isnt really into politics we only really found out about the election because of the posters everywere. I personally think that canada is great due to its incusive nature and its overall sustainability for the people living there. We have low gun violence due to gun laws and even though our taxes are among'st the highest in the world it goes to our free healthcare and other thing that we need. Im not the best when it comes to improving things im good at making them worse so im not sure what i would change about canada to make it better.
ReplyDelete
